‘Mistaken identify’: SHO shot dead in newly-owned car by police official in Pakistan’s Shikarpur

In a bizarre incident, a station house officer (SHO) was shot dead in Sindh’s Shikarpur district in Pakistan after a police official opened fire on his newly-owned private vehicle in what was being described as an alleged case of mistaken identity.

The victim has been identified as SHO Ali Hassan of the Lakhi Ghulam Shah police station, Geo News reported.

Sharing details about the incident, Senior Superintendent of Police Muhammad Kaleem said that Hassan was travelling in his newly-purchased car when a police official opened fire near the Golo Daro area after finding it suspicious.

The police official involved was later taken into custody and placed under quarter guard pending further investigation in the matter.

The shocking incident has prompted major action from the provincial police leadership, with the Sindh police chief seeking details about the incident from the relevant regional command.

As of now, other official details about the circumstances leading up to the shooting have not been provided by police, which has termed it as a case of misidentification.

This incident comes months after Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar announced an operation against dacoits in the Katcha (riverine) area. “We will use whatever resources (needed against dacoits),” Lanjar earlier said.

He further claimed that dacoits will be destroyed, adding that they will be targeted specifically in “ruthless action” and no one will be spared.
